Where the rich people live....

We took a cruise down Mandurah marina to explore the neighbourhood...

You can get a good view from the top deck

The ferry left the marina and steered towards the "residential" area
The whole canel is lined by fancy-looking houses (or should i say, "bungalows").

Being situated by the water, these houses usually have their own pontoon and the owners have their own motorboats parked there.

This house even has its own swimming pool and tennis court!
The owner is having a party at his balcony, which overseas the canal

According to the tour guide, this house cost 7 million... owned by some European tycoon... designed by some bla bla bla famous architect...
And the worst thing is: the owner only stays here a few weeks every year, during his weekend getways

... more fancy-looking bungalows... drool....

Weekend getaway: Mandurah

This is Mandurah - a small coastal town 1 hour south from Perth.
AK, PK and me decided to check out this place on a lazy sunday ......
Maybe its the camera, or the bag, or just our dressing, but we sure look very "touristy"

First stop: Grab an ice-cream (honey-comb flavor) at SIMMO'S to cool ourselves down. Temp that day was abt 33 degrees!

On one end, its the marnia and coastal bank

Further inland, there's pple having picnics, BBQs, chilling out, and even a weekend flea market.

Its also a good place for fishing and crabbing..

There are dolphins playing around

and pelicans..... swimming near the jetty, waiting to be fed by passing tourists.

Big White Dice

I found this car accessory shop in Carousel - one of the largest shopping mall in Perth

Check out the facade of the shop!!

Looking back at my earlier post about car accessories, I guess i'm not the only one around who likes hanging dice accessories.

The shop owner is Aussie (not Singaporean/Malaysian) btw.

Lets talk about Petrol

Owning a car means that you will need to start setting aside expenses for petrol. As such, I have subscribed to this amazing website called Fuel Watch. (http://www.fuelwatch.wa.gov.au)

This website explains everything you need to know about current fuel prices, trends, locations of petrol kiosk etc.
These snapshots are taken from the website.

This table tells me that Coles Express (Shell) at Canning Vale has the cheapest Unleaded Petrol in my area. ($1.341 per litre)

Petrol Trend for the past month:

Theory behind trends:

Some things I have learnt:
1) Do not under-estimate discount coupons. "4 cents off per litre" can equate to a lot of savings in the long run.
2) Pump petrol when the price is cheap, NOT when your tank is empty
3) Fuel prices are usually cheapest on Wednesdays
4) Fuel prices can differ a lot from place to place. It is most expensive in the city centre and far-away tourist attractions (eg Margaret River) and cheapest in unpopulated suburbs(eg Coles in Canning Vale). difference can be up to 20cents per litre.
5) Due to demand & supply, fuel prices vary at different times of the day/week. Prices start to increase after 4pm where most pple knock off work, and also increase on Fri, Sat and Sunday where more pple are not working.

I wanna eat ice cream

Saw a cute ice-cream van outside Cockburn area today. Such vans are rather common over here.
Time to go get my ice-cream fix for the day : )

Gone Fishing

Another boring weekend. We thought of trying out sth new.
ET, who was most pro among us at this sport, was busy tying the fishing knots during our journey there.

Fishing spot #1:
A hidden wooden platform under Canning Bridge.
Tried fishing for 2 hours. No luck. so we left for another location.

Fishing spot #2:
Beside the river near Causeway area.

Waiting for fishes to bite.....

Slightly better luck here, at least we caught something here.
For me, all I got were a few small puffer-fish.

Unhappy with our catch that day, we decided to "take revenge" on the fishes by eating FISH & CHIPS for dinner. hahaha

Perhaps we aren't pro enough. Will go read up more abt fishing and use better baits next time.
